MAY
DETERMINATION:
Staying motivated is a challenge - especially at this time of year.  But finishing strong is one of the ways that you show your determination - and determination can take you a long way in this world.  So keep your eyes on the prize this month, and remember that it's worth it to make it to the finish line and say, "I did it!"

APRIL
HUMILITY:
What is it that makes us think we deserve to be first in line, to have everyone's attention, to be the star?  What makes us think we are more important than other people?  Whether it's holding the door for someone or letting your little sister have the last piece of cake, when you show humility, you're actually honoring the worth of another person - which makes you pretty special....in a humble sort of way, of course....

MARCH
FORGIVENESS:
It's so tempting to want revenge, or payback or justice when someone has done you wrong.  In those moments of anger, it's hard to remember what it's like to be on the other side.  But deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn't have to pay does much more than let someone off the hook.  Having the courage to let go and forgive is powerful, and it  frees you - the forgiver - from the anger and resentment.

FEBRUARY
RESPECT:
Sometimes it can be easier to respect those who are in charge, because you kind of have to.  But respect means more than obeying people who are in charge.  Respect means that you show people they are valuable by what you say and how you act..  think about that for a minute...with everything you said today or everything you did... were you showing others they are important to you?

JANUARY
KNOWLEDGE:
With all there is to know and discover in the world, it can be overwhelming.  But what if it's not about the facts we are learning?  What if we believe that everything we learn makes us better at whatever we do?  Instead of thinking of knowledge as something to gather and store up, think about it as helping you to get better at other things you like to do.

DECEMBER
JOY:
Joy is finding a way to be happy, even when things don't go your way.
Look for Joy.:
* When a student doesn't perform well on a project, look for ways they handle it in a positive way.
* A positive solution being posed after a disappointment (it is raining and outdoor recess is cancelled.)
* A smile for the winning team after a loss of in a gym game.

NOVEMBER
HONOR:
Honor is letting someone know you see how valuable they really are.
Look for Honor.:
*Thank an adult or friend.
*Write a note of appreciation.
*Tell a teacher when someone helps you out..  *Give a pat on the back or a handshake to a person in gratitude for something they have done.
*Serve others.

OCTOBER

COURAGE:
Courage means being brave enough to do what you should do even when you're afraid.  This month we will learn about courage, discovering what we should do and doing it.  As we talk about courage, think about people you have heard about in history and people you know that have shown courage in a dangerous situation or when they were sick.  You might be surprised at the courageous people all around you.

SEPTEMBER

RESPONSIBILITY:
How do kids show the people who trust them with things that they can be trusted with more?
Here's the thing:  over time, showing you can be responsible with something small will earn you the chance to be responsible with something bigger.  So this month, give your kids opportunities to show responsibility.

AUGUST

OBEDIENCE:
Getting things done, working with a team, and accomplishing goals all require obedience; they all require trusting someone to lead you.  Remind your children:  when youre asked to do something, and youre tempted to roll your eyes, ask yourself can I trust this person?  If so, your obedience is about more than following the rules, its about treating others right and making a smart decision.
